About The Author
“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”
I am a thirty-something South African with a penchant for slow, immersive travel and photography. I am also the author of the travel stories and imagery on sheerheroine.com where I chronicle the colourful characters and significant moments experienced during my travels.
In 2016 I quit my job, sold everything I owned and left my home country in exchange for unemployment, uncertainty and certain poverty hopeful (and perhaps a little too idealistic) to start a journey of international shoestring travel. I flew to South America to realize a dream I had been harbouring for 12 long years – one of surrender and reinvention in the Amazon jungle.
The degree to which I have changed since taking those first steps on this epic journey is nothing short of amazing and the happiness that it has bought me compels me to share the experiences that have both humbled and energized me. I hope that these stories will ignite your wanderlust or perhaps your own journey to self-discovery, that it offers a realistic view of the obstacles and treasures that await on this not-so-often chosen path for those seeking inspiration to how to break free from the constructs of their lives.
Come share in my adventures – my life – as I explore the world’s landscapes, its humanity and its beauty. Talk to me about your own experiences via the Contact page, follow me on Facebook or Instagram or just say Hi in the comments section below any post.
